It started with supplies…
The first reports of the quick expansion of Russia’s war in Ukraine started a scramble to help. Immediately we contacted Project Cure a United States based non-profit that provided us the first general supplies we sent to Ukraine, which were hand carried by friends.
Our first trip in March 2022 soon followed during which we provided supplies for needed for traumatic eye injuries. These supplies included sutures from the San Francisco, California Health Department; Surgical items and tools from the University of Michigan, Kellogg Eye Center and viscoelastics purchased with donations from our supporters and friends.
At the time we had little focus or understanding that this war would last for years. For us it was a time of learning, making connections and supporting Ukraine in ways we did not yet fully recognize.
